Today we discussed Rhyme and Rhyme Scheme. The worksheet can be found on 'Worksheet and Discussion' Site. The definitions are below:

Rhyme—repetition of sounds at the end of words

Rhyme Scheme--Is the pattern of rhyming lines in a poem or in lyrics for music.

· The way that they indicate the rhyme scheme is by using letters.

TODAY WE WORKED ON EXTENDED SIMILES AND METAPHORS. THE DEFINITION IS BELOW. TO GET THE WORKSHEET, YOU NEED TO GO TO THE 'WORKSHEET AND DISCUSSION' SITE LOCATED ON LEFT HAND SIDE OF PAGE.

· Definition: An extended simile or metaphor occurs when a comparison is continued over several lines of the poem. In other words, the comparison is dragged on.

The definitions we learned today were as follows:

  1. Figurative Language—language that is used to express or compare things in creative

and unique ways. Comparisons and expressions aren’t meant to be taken literally.

  1. Simile—a comparison of unlike things using like or as.

  1. Metaphor—comparisons of unlike things that do not use like or as.

Homework: Friday, February 5th MORNING ROUTINE POEM

TODAY WE BEGAN WRITING OUR FIRST POEM! THE DETAILS ARE BELOW:

English-O’Hara/Knoll. POETRY DAY 4: MY MORNING ROUTINE POEM

Assignment: Each of you will write a poem about your morning routine.

Requirements:
• Your Poem must be at least 14-16 lines long. (go over 14-16 lines and get extra credit)
• Your Poem does not have to rhyme, but you can try to rhyme if you wish. CHALLENGE YOURSELF
• Try to use images in your poem that appeal to the five senses (sight, sound, smell, touch, taste)

Due: Monday, February 8th
