Complete Review for Tomorrow's "Of Mice and Men" Quiz:

• Pick 4 characters who show the Motif of LONELINESS. Give an example of how each character shows or demonstrates LONELINESS.
• Pick 4 characters who show the Motif of PROTECTION. Give an example of how each character shows or demonstrates PROTECTION.
• Pick 4 characters from the book and describe their TONE. In other words, describe the tone of voice that they normally speak in.

Homework: Monday, November 16th

1. Assignment:  Write a Short Scene between Lennie and George about one of the following topics:

·     Lennie wants to know why the sun shines

·     Lennie wants to know if they can get a pet monkey to come along with them on their adventures.

·     Lennie fell in the water when they were walking by the creek.

·     Lennie wants George to tell him a story.

If you don’t want to use one of these options feel free to come up with your own subject of conversation between the two characters.

 Requirements: 

·     Must be at least 17 speaking parts or at least 1-1 ½ pages long.  Extra credit will be given for going longer than a page.

·     You should try to use the type of TONE and LANGUAGE that George and Lennie would use when you write your dialogue.

Today we started reading "Of Mice and Men" by John Steinbeck.  Some of you received different homework depending on how far we read.  Both homework assignments are listed below.  Try to do both by Thursday.

1.     Reading Response Question:  What kind of character is George so far?  What about Lennie?  Explain. (1/2 page)

2.  Research 3 other books that John Steinbeck wrote. Tell me the names of the books and briefly describe what each is about.  (1/2 page – 1 page)

3.  In your opinion, what is the most important piece of technology that we have?  Explain why.

4.  Imagine you come back to visit Earth 1,000 years from now.  What kinds of new technologies do you think you would see?  Explain what Earth might look like 1,000 years from now.  Be creative!
